How to Make a Meme
- Pick a format: Choose Square (1080×1080) for feeds and group chats, or Portrait (1080×1350) for Instagram and Facebook posts.
- Upload your image: Drag a picture onto the canvas, or click the upload area or Choose File. JPG, PNG and WebP all work.
- Add your caption: Type your text, pick a font, size, fill color and outline color, then press Add Text or click the spot on the canvas where it should go.
- Position everything: Drag text with your mouse to move it, and use the Scale, X and Y sliders to frame the image inside the dashed crop box.
- Download: Press Download to save a full-resolution PNG, with the crop guides and selection boxes removed.

Private by Design: Your Images Stay on Your Device
Everything happens inside your browser. When you choose a picture, it's read locally and drawn onto an HTML canvas; the finished meme is generated on that same canvas and saved straight to your downloads folder.
Your photos and captions are never uploaded to our server, and nothing is kept after you close the tab. That makes it safe to use with personal photos or work screenshots. The site is funded by Google AdSense ads, which may use cookies; our Privacy Policy explains how that works and how to opt out.
Tips for Better Memes
- Keep captions short. Each text layer is a single line, so split a long joke into a top line and a bottom line.
- Use the classic combo. White Impact with a black outline stays readable on both light and dark photos.
- Go big. At 1080 px wide, 60–80 px text is easy to read on a phone screen.
- Stay inside the frame. In Square mode, anything outside the dashed box is cropped out of the download.
- Start sharp. Use an image at least 1080 px wide so the export stays crisp instead of blurry.
What Else You Can Make
- Social media graphics: Instagram posts, quote cards and promotional images.
- Reaction images: custom replies for group chats, Discord and Slack.
- Classroom and study aids: labeled diagrams and memorable visual notes.
- Business content: announcement graphics and simple marketing visuals.
- Personal projects: event invitations, motivational posters and birthday cards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this meme generator really free?
Yes. Every feature is free to use, with no trial, no premium tier and no download limit. The site is supported by ads.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. Open the page and start editing. There is no login, no email and nothing to install.
Will my meme have a watermark?
No. The downloaded PNG contains only your image and the text you added. The dashed crop guide and selection boxes you see while editing are left out of the file.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your image is read and edited inside your browser, and the finished meme is created on your device. Nothing you upload or type is sent to our server or stored after you close the page.
What image formats can I use?
Any image your browser can open, including JPG, PNG and WebP. Animated GIFs work too, but the download is a still PNG of the first frame.
What size are the downloaded memes?
Square memes download at 1080×1080 pixels and portrait memes at 1080×1350 pixels, both as PNG files.
Can I add more than one caption?
Yes. Add as many text layers as you like. Each one appears in the Text Elements list, where you can select it, edit its words, font, size and colors, or delete it.
Why doesn't my text look like Impact?
The generator uses fonts already installed on your device. Impact is standard on Windows and Mac but missing on some Linux and Android systems, where your browser swaps in a similar font. Bold Arial is a reliable alternative.
